This raw piece of maple had everything going for it--burl, natural edges on two sides, and spalting along the horizontal grain.  What a find!

I turned and hollowed this in order to give it a light feel with a high degree of lift.  As I was hollowing it, the image of our shrinking ozone layer came to mind.
