This
piece is called "Torn Bowl" because the bark which remains looks as if it is being torn
apart. This feature creates a dramatic tension, which is well balanced
by the through hole on the opposite side of the vessel.
Some of the best results from turning are impossible to
predict. While the shape of the piece and the bark edge were part of the
original concept, the pieces of torn bark were a surprise that would be nearly
impossible to replicate.
